The Doha Film Institute (DFI) has announced that the Doha Film Festival (DFF) will be held from November 20 to 28, 2025, transforming Doha into a global hub for filmmakers, artists, and cinema enthusiasts.
Announced during the 78th Cannes Film Festival, this year’s edition coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Doha Film Institute, reinforcing its mission to amplify powerful, purpose-driven storytelling and uplift underrepresented voices from the Global South and beyond.
DFF 2025 will feature a rich lineup of industry sessions, community screenings, youth-focused programming, and engaging cultural events across iconic locations in Doha. With over QR 1 million in total prize money, the festival will highlight cinematic excellence through four competition strands:
- International Feature Film Competition – showcasing new works by emerging and established filmmakers worldwide.
- International Short Film Competition – recognizing innovative storytelling in short formats.
- Ajyal Film Competition – judged by a youth jury aged 16–25.
- Made in Qatar Competition – celebrating Qatar-based filmmakers.
This year’s DFF builds on the legacy of the former Ajyal Film Festival, retaining its core elements while expanding to offer new dimensions that foster dialogue, cross-cultural understanding, and creative empowerment.
Key awards include Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Artistic Achievement, Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Performance, and a special Audience Award.
Festival venues include Katara Cultural Village (red carpet events and premieres), Msheireb Downtown Doha (industry sessions and events), and the Museum of Islamic Art (short film screenings).
The complete programme, jury members, and competition titles will be revealed in the coming months.
