The Ministry of Municipality has unveiled an ambitious plan to enhance Qatar’s public parks, increasing their number from 122 to 160 across different municipalities. This initiative aligns with the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability and aims to elevate the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Sustainability-Focused Initiatives

As part of its environmental strategy, the Ministry is emphasizing:

  • Native Plant Integration: Incorporating local plant species that require minimal water, ensuring resource conservation.
  • Efficient Irrigation: Adopting advanced irrigation systems that use treated wastewater, promoting responsible water usage.
  • Infrastructure Development: Enhancing park facilities with walking paths, shaded seating areas, and other amenities to encourage outdoor activities.

These efforts aim to establish eco-friendly recreational spaces that support Qatar’s long-term environmental objectives.

Upgraded Facilities and Services

To accommodate the rising number of visitors, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, the Ministry has introduced:

  • Extended Hours: Keeping large central parks open with security and maintenance teams on duty until 1 AM.
  • Improved Amenities: Ensuring cleanliness and functionality of essential facilities, including prayer rooms, restrooms, and seating areas.

These enhancements are designed to create a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere for families and individuals of all backgrounds.

Recent Park Developments

Qatar has already begun implementing these principles in newly developed parks. For instance, Umm Al Seneem Park , inaugurated in 2022, showcases vast green spaces and modern facilities, serving as a benchmark for future projects.

This expansion reflects Qatar’s commitment to fostering community engagement, promoting a healthier lifestyle, and creating sustainable public spaces for all.
