The Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has announced the beginning of the Al-Wasm (Al-Wasmi) season on October 16, marking a significant shift in the country’s weather pattern. The season will last for 52 days, ending on December 6.
During Al-Wasm, clouds begin to move from west to east, and early rainfall in this period is often considered a sign of a fruitful rainy season ahead. The name Al-Wasmi originates from its association with the rainfall that nurtures the growth of various desert plants such as the truffle plant and Geranium (Al-Yarwa), which flourish after seasonal rains.
According to QMD, temperatures in Doha are expected to drop throughout this period, bringing warm days and mild nights that can occasionally turn cold, particularly with the influence of dry northwesterly winds.
The Al-Wasm season is considered an important and much-anticipated time in Qatar’s climate calendar, marking the transition toward cooler and more pleasant weather after the summer heat.
