A potential new chapter in Qatar’s entertainment landscape is on the horizon as Sphere Entertainment, the US-based company behind the groundbreaking Las Vegas Sphere, has secured trademarks in Doha.

According to a report by AGBI on 1 September 2025, Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry recently approved the company’s applications for the names “Sphere Doha” and “Sphere Qatar.” These filings open the door to the possibility of a cutting-edge entertainment arena in the capital.

Sphere Entertainment is internationally recognized for its Las Vegas venue, an iconic structure featuring a 111-metre-high LED exterior and advanced immersive technologies that redefine live experiences for concerts, events, and more. If brought to Qatar, a similar concept could host a wide range of activities including live concerts, theatrical performances, esports, sports showcases, cinema screenings, and cultural exhibitions.

While the trademarks suggest future expansion, company executives have not confirmed specific locations. James Dolan, chairman and chief executive, recently stated that new projects would depend on factors such as population size and tourism demand. The company has previously indicated that it may explore smaller-scale versions of the Sphere outside its Las Vegas flagship.

Currently, Abu Dhabi holds the exclusive regional rights to develop and operate Sphere venues across the Middle East and Africa for the next decade, with its own large-scale project announced in 2024. That venue is expected to mirror the scale of Las Vegas’ 20,000-capacity Sphere.

Financially, Sphere Entertainment reported revenues of $283 million for the last quarter, up 3 percent year-on-year, alongside an operating loss of $50 million—an improvement compared to previous results.

The trademark approvals in Qatar mark a significant step that could see Doha added to the shortlist of cities being considered for Sphere’s international expansion.
