Doha, Qatar: On Thursday, HE Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, Minister of Municipality, officially inaugurated Rawdat Al Hamama Public Park. The park is home to the world’s longest air-conditioned outdoor track, spanning 1,197 meters, aimed at encouraging the public to engage in jogging and walking.
This landmark project, executed by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) in coordination with the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality, serves the residents of Al Kheesa and neighbouring areas.
Rawdat Al Hamama Public Park can accommodate up to 10,000 visitors daily. It boasts several unique features, including Qatar’s largest plant clock, eight service kiosks, a 500-spectator open amphitheatre, and separate prayer rooms and restrooms for men and women.
The inauguration was attended by notable officials, including HE President of Ashghal, Eng. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Meer; Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs, Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani; and Director of the Public Parks Department, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, alongside other dignitaries from the Ministry of Municipality and Ashghal.
During the ceremony, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to developing world-class public parks as healthy, recreational, and sporting spaces for families. He described Rawdat Al Hamama as a significant addition to Qatar’s recreational facilities, enhancing public amenities across the country.
Al Sada also noted the remarkable growth in Qatar’s public parks, which have increased from 56 in 2010 to 147 in 2024—a 163% rise. Green spaces have expanded from 2.6 million square meters in 2010 to over 18 million square meters in 2024, raising the per capita share of green space from 1.0 square meters to 5.6 square meters.
The Ministry’s efforts to develop green spaces are exemplified in initiatives such as the ‘Ten Million Trees Initiative,’ which has so far resulted in the planting of 840,000 trees and shrubs, creating nearly 500,000 square meters of green areas.
Rawdat Al Hamama Public Park is a model of sustainability, promoting environmental conservation while enhancing quality of life. It aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 by contributing to sustainable urban development and creating greener, more liveable cities.
The park spans 176,000 square meters, with 138,000 square meters dedicated to green spaces, making up 80% of its total area. It features 1,042 trees representing 21 local and international species and incorporates modern facilities like an automatic irrigation system that uses 100% treated water.
Rawdat Al Hamama Public Park stands as a testament to Qatar’s commitment to fostering sustainability and creating inclusive, eco-friendly recreational spaces.
