Ras Al Nasaa Park Opens on Doha Corniche, Built with Recycled Materials from Expo 2023
Doha has unveiled its newest green space, Ras Al Nasaa Park, located at the start of the Doha Corniche. Built using recycled materials from the international gardens showcased at Expo 2023 Doha, the park was officially inaugurated by Doha Municipality’s director general, Mansour Ajran al-Buainain.
This eco-friendly park is the second of its kind, following Al Rayhan Park in Duhail, and is part of the Expo 2023 Doha legacy project promoting sustainability. Offering stunning views of iconic landmarks such as Old Doha Port, the National Museum of Qatar, and Stadium 974, it’s set to become a popular spot for residents and tourists alike.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mohamed Abdullah Abbas, head of Doha Municipality’s Parks Section, along with other officials and guests. Al-Buainain emphasized that the park aligns with the Ministry of Municipality’s 2024-2030 strategy, inspired by Qatar National Vision 2030 and its focus on sustainable development.
He highlighted the involvement of Qatar Scientific Club’s sustainability ambassadors in the design process. The initiative began with a workshop on public park design, followed by a competition to create the park layout. The winning design was refined and brought to life.
Abbas noted that the park was completed in just 30 days, utilizing recycled materials from Expo 2023, including seating, lighting, and irrigation systems. Spanning 14,000 square metres, the park features 10,000sqm of natural grass, trees, and palm trees, irrigated with advanced modern systems.
Key features include:
- 25 palm trees, 23 lighting poles, and 53 ground lights
- 24 seating areas for public use
- Pathways surrounded by trees, shrubs, and ground cover plants
- Approximately 80% of materials used are recycled
Ras Al Nasaa Park reflects Qatar’s commitment to sustainable urban development, offering a green oasis in the heart of the city while preserving its environmental and aesthetic charm.
