Qatar National Day, celebrated annually on 18 December, marks the unification of Qatar by its founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, in 1878. This day is not just about national pride but also about vibrant celebrations that bring communities together.

Qatar National Day is a public holiday across all sectors, including schools and institutions, established in 2007 by the Qatari government.

National Day Parade

The highlight of Qatar National Day is the grand military parade at Doha Corniche in the early hours of the morning.

What to Expect:
Witness military vehicles, personnel, horses, camels, and even military dogs in an impressive showcase of Qatar’s defence forces. A military air show creates breathtaking views in the sky, and grand dhow boats float proudly with Qatar’s flag.

Who Attends:
The parade is graced by H.H. the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, members of the royal family, dignitaries, and the public.

A Special Highlight:
Occasionally, H.H. the Amir greets the crowd in person – a moment everyone eagerly anticipates!

Evening Car Parade

As night falls, the streets come alive with the “Maseera,” an informal car parade filled with patriotic joy.

What Happens:
Cars adorned with Qatar-themed decorations parade from Corniche to Lusail Boulevard. People dance in the streets, wave flags, and celebrate with party sprays, all in high spirits.

Fireworks

The night sky lights up with spectacular fireworks displays at locations like Doha Corniche, Katara Cultural Village, and Lusail.

Note: In solidarity with global crises, fireworks have occasionally been cancelled.

Darb Al Saai

Located in Umm Salal Muhammed, Darb Al Saai transforms into a bustling celebration village.

Activities Include:
Flag-raising ceremonies, traditional games, cultural crafts, car shows, military showcases, and more.

Access:
Open to the public and typically free for all.

Ardha (Sword Dance)

A hallmark of Qatar National Day, the traditional Ardha dance is performed across the country.

Exclusive Performances:
H.H. the Amir and VIPs perform Ardah at exclusive gatherings.
