The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has launched a new electronic system that allows travelers arriving in or departing from Qatar to apply online for a prior permit to carry controlled medicines for personal use.

According to the Ministry, the new system enables passengers to submit their applications electronically, track the status of their request, and receive their permit online. The initiative is designed to speed up procedures, improve the user experience, and maintain high standards of pharmaceutical control while ensuring the safe and responsible use of controlled medicines.

The electronic platform provides a clear and flexible process that helps travelers meet the legal and health requirements before their journey. It also strengthens pharmaceutical oversight and supports community safety by ensuring controlled medicines are carried in accordance with approved regulations.

To help users navigate the service, the Ministry has published a guidance booklet explaining how to use the electronic system, the application requirements, the necessary supporting documents, and the list of controlled medicines.

MoPH stated that applications are reviewed by the Department of Pharmacy and Drug Control, with approval or rejection issued within three working days after all required documents have been submitted. Travelers are advised to apply at least five working days before their travel date to allow sufficient processing time.

To apply, users must log in through the National Authentication System, complete the online application, and upload the required documents, including a valid prescription. Once reviewed and approved in accordance with the applicable regulations, the electronic permit will be issued.

The launch forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing digital transformation efforts to automate public services, improve efficiency, and support the priorities of Qatar’s National Health Strategy, including the development of a highly efficient digital health system.
