MOI Highlights Dangers of Handling Shrapnel and Unidentified Debris

The Ministry of Interior Qatar (MOI) has advised the public to avoid approaching or touching any unidentified objects, debris, or fragments and to report them immediately by calling 999. The advisory comes as part of efforts to ensure public safety and prevent potential risks that may arise from handling unknown materials.

According to the MOI, approaching or touching debris can lead to serious injuries. Debris often consists of irregular and sharp fragments that may cause deep cuts or bleeding if moved or handled without proper safety measures.

The ministry also warned about the possibility of unexploded objects. In some situations, debris may include remnants that did not fully explode. Touching or moving such items could trigger an explosion or cause a sudden reaction, posing a significant danger to anyone nearby.

Another concern highlighted is the obstruction of specialized teams. Moving or tampering with debris may alter the location of remnants or evidence that specialized authorities need to examine in order to determine the cause of an incident.

The MOI further explained that debris resulting from explosions or falling objects may still carry high temperatures due to friction or the blast. Contact with such materials could lead to immediate burns.

In addition, some debris may contain hazardous materials, including fuel residues, chemicals, or materials originating from the source of the explosion. These substances may pose health risks if touched or improperly handled.

The advisory also notes the potential for environmental pollution, as debris could be contaminated with oils, heavy metals, or industrial substances that may harm the skin or the surrounding environment if handled directly.

The Ministry of Interior stressed the importance of maintaining a safe distance from any unidentified objects and immediately reporting them through the emergency number 999, allowing specialized teams to handle the situation safely and professionally.
