Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum
The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani’s complex of Museums (FBQ Museums) is the brainchild of a man’s long-lasting passion for collecting the world’s items of peculiar and historical relevance to create and share a new cultural heritage for Qatar and beyond. It showcases items from the private collection of the Sheikh after whom it is named.
FBQ Museums is much more than a series of gallery spaces. Since the inception of the main Museum in Al Shahaniya in 1998, through the establishment of the Carpet Museum in the heart of Doha in 2014, and with the forthcoming Car Museum, FBQ Museums have been engaging and connecting communities with Qatari heritage by celebrating diversity and hospitality.
With over 30,000 objects spanning over a hundred years and ranging in size, FBQ Museum represents a modern version of a Cabinet of Curiosities, the historic and eclectic room of marvels from the Renaissance that amazed connoisseurs and collectors throughout time. It displays items spanning from the Jurassic age through to the early Islamic period and up to the present day, across twelve themes: from Islamic Art to Qatar Heritage, Vehicles, Jewelry & Currency.
Visitors to the museum can explore one of the most diverse collections of any Doha museum including the world’s largest private collection of swords and weaponry. Among the Museum highlights, the Syrian House and the Qur’an room.
