Takalam is a free Arabic-language learning platform developed by Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs for learners in Qatar and abroad. It provides structured courses that build practical communication skills rather than just theory, helping non-native speakers use Arabic in daily life. You can use Takalam wherever you have internet access: at home, at work, in a café, at school, or in a library. Because lessons are also downloadable, you can continue studying offline, making it suitable for busy schedules and different lifestyles. Arabic is the official language of more than 20 countries and one of the world’s most widely spoken native languages. Takalam removes common barriers such as high fees, fixed class times, and the need to travel to a physical institute, offering a high-value learning route at no cost.

Learn Arabic for free with Takalam - structured, flexible, and accessible Arabic lessons for everyone, wherever you are.

Who is it for?

The program is aimed at non-Arabic speakers of all ages: students, employees, job seekers, homemakers, retirees, visitors, and professionals. It suits anyone who needs Arabic for everyday conversation, business interactions, travel, cultural understanding, or to support Islamic studies. Takalam is organised into seven progressive levels, from beginner to more advanced stages. Each level contains 20 consecutive lessons, and every lesson includes oral, visual, and written activities to reinforce new language in multiple ways.

Lesson structure and learning style

Lessons combine video-based explanations with interactive exercises such as listening tasks, reading passages, short writing activities, and speaking practice. This mixed approach helps learners retain vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and understand how to form sentences correctly. You can access Takalam via the ministry’s website or through the dedicated mobile application. Both options give you the same course content and tools, allowing you to switch between devices without losing progress. There are no fixed class times; you move through the lessons when it suits you. This flexibility makes it easier for people with busy or irregular schedules to maintain consistent study and avoid dropping out.
