Doha Recognised Among the World’s Best Cities
Qatar

Doha has once again secured its place on the global stage, being listed among the world’s top cities in the World’s Best Cities Report 2026. The report, published by Resonance Consultancy, highlights the city’s achievements in economic resilience, infrastructure development, and quality of life, showcasing Qatar’s ongoing urban progress.

Using its proprietary Place Power methodology, which evaluates cities based on livability, prosperity, and global perception, the report acknowledges Doha’s strategic investments in sustainable urban development, economic diversification, and social stability.

The capital’s performance in prosperity indicators is particularly strong, with high labour force participation and low unemployment rates reflecting a stable business environment and a dynamic job market. Strategic national policies and consistent public and private investment have helped attract international talent and capital to the city.

Infrastructure developments have played a pivotal role in Doha’s rise. Hamad International Airport’s expanded concourses, which have raised annual capacity to over 65 million passengers, reinforce Qatar’s position as a global aviation hub. Complemented by the efficiency of the Doha Metro and modern road networks, these improvements enhance the city’s connectivity and overall urban functionality.

Doha’s post-FIFA World Cup growth has also boosted tourism, with over five million visitors recorded in 2024 and hotel occupancy nearing 70%. The city’s hospitality sector continues to expand, with luxury properties in West Bay and Lusail contributing to a diversified accommodation offering.

Retail and leisure developments have further strengthened Doha’s urban experience. New shopping malls, lifestyle destinations, and entertainment hubs in Lusail, alongside family-focused waterfront projects, reflect the city’s move toward integrated, mixed-use environments that appeal to both residents and visitors.

The report highlights Qatar’s growing appeal for foreign investment. Billions of dollars have been directed to greenfield projects, generating thousands of new jobs, while the growth of free zones and logistics hubs supports e-commerce and light manufacturing, reinforcing Doha’s role as a regional business centre.

Cultural development remains a key strength, with institutions in Msheireb Downtown Doha and Katara Cultural Village enriching the arts and culture scene. Upcoming international cultural initiatives are expected to further position Doha as a hub for creativity and design.

Although Doha ranks 100th overall, its prosperity indicators outperform perception-based scores, suggesting opportunities to enhance global awareness of the city’s economic and lifestyle advantages. Analysts note that perception often trails performance for rapidly developing cities, highlighting the importance of continued international engagement.

With a metropolitan population of around 2.65 million, Doha exemplifies the potential of emerging global cities that leverage efficiency, safety, and high living standards as competitive advantages. The city’s strong showing in the World’s Best Cities Report 2026 underscores Qatar’s long-term urban vision, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and human capital development as foundations for future growth.
