Children under the age of 10 are not permitted to sit in the front seat of a moving vehicle in Qatar, in accordance with the country’s Traffic Law. The rule is outlined in Article 55(3) of Decree-Law No. 19 of 2007, which regulates traffic in Qatar.

The restriction applies while a vehicle is moving on the road. The Qatar Ministry of Interior (MOI) has also reminded parents that wearing a seat belt does not exempt children under 10 from this requirement.

A violation of Article 55 carries a prescribed traffic settlement amount of QAR 500. However, if the violation is prosecuted under Article 95, the penalties can include a fine ranging from QAR 3,000 to QAR 10,000 and/or imprisonment for a period of one week to one year.

Parents and motorists should be aware of this regulation when travelling with children and ensure that young passengers are seated in accordance with Qatar’s traffic laws.
