Northwestern University in Qatar’s Media Majlis Museum, in partnership with ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture, has opened “All That Is Unseen,” an exhibition by internationally acclaimed London-based artist collective Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF).
The exhibition opened on October 4, 2026, marking the first major exhibition by both ACMI and Marshmallow Laser Feast in Qatar and the wider region. The touring exhibition has arrived in Doha from the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington.
Marshmallow Laser Feast is known for combining art, technology, scientific research and collaboration to make things that are normally beyond human perception easier to experience. Its work spans large-scale installations, films and live performances, with a focus on exploring the living world and humanity’s connection to it.
Curated by ACMI in collaboration with MLF, “All That Is Unseen” brings together works created with artists, filmmakers, musicians and scientists. Contributors include filmmaker Terrence Malick, producer Edward R. Pressman, Cate Blanchett, Daisy Lafarge, Jon Hopkins, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Meredith Monk, Howard Skempton and Jonny Greenwood.
For its presentation in Doha, the exhibition has been reimagined for the Media Majlis Museum, with the visitor journey and context adapted for audiences in Qatar and the wider region. The exhibition is arranged across ten key areas, featuring large-scale video works, immersive experiences, guided meditation and works on paper. Visitors are taken through different scales of the natural world, from droplets of water and human cells to black holes, while exploring the connections between the human body, nature and the wider universe.
Among the featured experiences are “Works of Nature,” which explores breath and the cycle of reciprocity, and “Science Behind the Sublime,” which looks at the research, stories and technologies behind Marshmallow Laser Feast’s work. “Distortions in Spacetime” takes visitors on an immersive journey towards a black hole while exploring connections between black holes, dying stars and the human body.
Visitors can also experience a collective meditation featuring the voice of Academy Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett, accompanied by a score by Jon Hopkins. Other highlights include “Evolver: The Journey of Breath,” a large-scale immersive installation following oxygen through the lungs and heart, and “Evolver: The Breathing Cell,” which explores how oxygen is processed within human cells.
The exhibition also includes the original VR version of “Evolver” and “The Tides Within Us,” a series of large-scale still images showing the movement and rhythms of oxygen through the human body. The journey concludes with “We Live in an Ocean of Air,” which returns to the theme of breath and explores the invisible relationship between plants and people and the systems that support life on Earth.
“All That Is Unseen” is open Sunday to Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., until January 21, 2027. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open to the public at Northwestern University in Qatar’s campus in Education City, Doha.
