Qatar is set to welcome the shortest day and longest night of the year as December 21 officially marks the beginning of astronomical winter, according to the Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD).
The Winter Solstice signals the end of autumn and the start of winter, all thanks to Earth’s 23.5° axial tilt as it orbits the sun. On this day, the sun aligns directly over the Tropic of Capricorn, bringing cooler temperatures and longer nights.
In the Northern Hemisphere, this astronomical event also means no sunrise or sunset at the Arctic Circle, making it a fascinating phenomenon for sky watchers.
As for today’s weather update, QMD reported that Abu Samra recorded the lowest temperature at 7°C, while Doha experienced a chilly 15°C.
Get ready to embrace the winter vibes and enjoy the cooler days ahead!
