Qatar to Require Security Cameras Inside Taxis

Qatar is set to introduce stricter regulatory measures for taxis and limousine vehicles, including a requirement for companies operating limousine services to install internal security cameras inside their vehicles.

According to Al Sharq, the measures are part of efforts to strengthen monitoring of the taxi sector, support higher standards of safety and security, and ensure the rights of both passengers and drivers.

The internal cameras will be used to document journeys, help prevent unacceptable behaviour and violations, and provide an accurate security reference in the event of complaints or reports.

The upcoming measures will also include intensified inspection campaigns to check compliance with approved technical standards. Authorities will verify driver records and the permits required to operate taxis, following reports that some individuals may be operating taxi vehicles without the necessary permits.

The report also states that the cameras will be connected to central operations rooms to allow for immediate and effective monitoring.

The measures are intended to further develop Qatar’s public transport system while strengthening oversight and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
