Katara Hosts Exhibition Tracing Basketball’s History and Global Legacy

The National Archives of Qatar (NAQ) has opened “Beyond the Court: The History and Global Legacy of Basketball,” an exhibition organised in collaboration with the FIBA Foundation at Building 46 in the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara).

The exhibition will continue until March 27, 2027, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the history and development of basketball through documented materials, historic possessions and interactive experiences.

The exhibition attracted a large turnout on its opening day, with visitors exploring its different sections and learning about the evolution of the sport over the decades.

“Beyond the Court” also highlights the founding of the FIBA Foundation and notable moments in the history of the FIBA Basketball World Cup. A dedicated section looks at the founding of the Qatar Basketball Federation and the development of basketball in Qatar.

The exhibition is being held as part of Qatar’s preparations to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027. It aims to shed light on the history and legacy of basketball while introducing the sport’s development to the public.

The initiative also reflects the National Archives of Qatar’s role in documenting the country’s sporting history and making it accessible to researchers and enthusiasts through modern and interactive methods.
