The Qatar Meteorology Department has announced that Al-Tarfa Rising begins today, August 24, 2026, marking the first of the Suhail seasons and the seventh and final rising of the summer season.
According to information quoted from the Qatar Calendar House, Al-Tarfa corresponds to the 2nd of Virgo and the 1st of Suhail. It consists of two faint, conjunct stars named for their position in the constellation Leo.
The beginning of Al-Tarfa is traditionally associated with changes in weather and seasonal conditions. The Qatar Meteorology Department notes that the weather gradually begins to moderate, although daytime heat remains. The period lasts for 13 days.
The season also has significance for agriculture. It is considered a suitable period for planting palm seedlings and trees, while the same vegetables planted during the Al-Nathra rising are also planted during this period.
The movement of migratory birds also increases during Al-Tarfa, including warblers and yellow warblers.
A popular saying associated with the rising states that when Al-Tarfa rises, the harvest begins early, fruit becomes plentiful, and the expenses of hosting guests are eased.
