Ministry of Interior Warns : Allowing Children Under 10 in Front Seats Is a Serious Traffic Violation
Children’s Safety in Cars – Ministry of Interior Awareness

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has reiterated that allowing children under the age of ten to sit in the front seat of a moving vehicle is a traffic violation that endangers their safety. Ensuring children’s safety inside vehicles is a shared responsibility that begins with seating them in the rear seat.

Traffic studies have revealed alarming findings — children under 10 years old seated in the front are eight times more likely to sustain serious injuries than adults in the event of an accident. This heightened risk is largely due to airbags, which are designed to protect adults but can be fatal for children because of their smaller body size and the force of deployment.

The MOI emphasized that protecting children inside vehicles is not optional but a duty grounded in awareness and responsibility. The rear seat remains the safest place for young passengers, significantly reducing the risk of severe injuries during collisions.

According to Clause (3) of Article (55) of Qatar’s Traffic Law, it is prohibited to allow children under ten years of age to sit in the front seats while the vehicle is in motion. The Ministry urges all motorists and guardians to comply with this regulation to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children on Qatar’s roads.
