Ramadan in 2026 is expected to start on Tuesday, February 17, according to astronomical predictions in most Arab countries. However, the official date will only be confirmed after the crescent moon is sighted by moon-sighting committees on the 29th of Sha’ban.
The holy month of Ramadan is a special time for Muslims worldwide, dedicated to worship, reflection, and closeness to God. It is also a period for strengthening family bonds, maintaining kinship ties, and embracing generosity and solidarity.
The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, with each month beginning upon the sighting of the new crescent moon. This makes Ramadan shift earlier by about 10 to 11 days each year in the Gregorian calendar. Over a 33-year cycle, Muslims experience the holy month in every season.
Religious authorities in each country will announce the official start date in line with their own procedures.
