Simaisma Beach, a well-loved family destination located 40 kilometers north of Doha, has officially closed as of June 10, 2025, to allow for the development of a major new tourism project. The beach will remain closed for five years, according to a report from Al Sharq.

The closure marks the beginning of the Simaisma tourism project, one of Qatar’s most ambitious tourism developments to date. Led by Qatari Diar, the large-scale project aims to transform the eastern coastline into a premier year-round destination for both residents and international visitors.

Covering approximately 8 million square meters, the development will stretch along a 7-kilometer strip of natural coastline. It will feature 16 planned tourism zones, including four distinctive resort areas, each offering unique architectural designs and cultural themes. This diverse layout is designed to deliver a rich and immersive experience that highlights Qatar’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

A key innovation of the project is the outdoor cooling system—a first-of-its-kind in Qatar—that will allow for comfortable open-air experiences even during the hot summer months.

This initiative is a core part of Qatar’s national vision to diversify its economy, attract global tourism, and enhance the quality of life through sustainable development and entertainment infrastructure. Once completed, the Simaisma tourism project is expected to become a landmark destination that reshapes the country’s leisure and hospitality sector.
