French Town Landerneau Breaks World Record for Largest Gathering of Smurfs
Over 3,000 people dressed as Smurfs gather in Landerneau, France for a world record

A small town in western France has made global headlines after breaking the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Smurfs. The town of Landerneau, located in the Brittany region, successfully assembled 3,076 people dressed in full Smurf costumes on Saturday, setting a new Guinness World Record.

Landerneau, with a population of 16,000, had previously made two unsuccessful attempts to surpass the previous record held by Lauchringen, Germany, which gathered 2,762 Smurfs in 2019. This time, the French town triumphed, with thousands of participants donning blue face paint, white hats, and singing “smurfy” songs in celebration.

The event drew international attention and was filled with joy, music, and creative costumes, turning the town into a sea of blue for the day.

The Smurfs, originally known as “Schtroumpfs” in French, were created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo in 1958. Over the years, these beloved characters have become a global franchise, inspiring films, TV series, video games, toys, and even theme parks.

This record-breaking gathering is a vibrant reminder of how timeless and cherished the Smurfs continue to be across generations.
