In continuous collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality, the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced the launch of a design and implementation project for Animal and Agricultural Research Laboratories. This initiative aims to boost national capabilities in veterinary and agricultural research through advanced infrastructure.

Three New Laboratories Planned
Engineer Ahmed Saleh, Project Manager, stated that the upcoming laboratories will provide a modern and efficient work environment that meets top international standards for agricultural and veterinary research. The project includes three main components: renovating the veterinary laboratories in the Old Airport area, constructing a new agricultural research lab in Al Sheehaniya, and developing advanced labs within the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP).

Upgrading the Veterinary Lab at Old Airport
Engineer Asmaa Al-Musallmani, Deputy Head of the Health Projects Section, confirmed that work on the project is underway and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2026, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality.

She also emphasized that the project will utilize around 55% locally sourced materials, including steel, iron, mechanical and electrical components, glass, aluminum, and woodworks. She stressed the Buildings Projects Department’s commitment to health, safety, and quality, using modern technologies to support Qatar’s vision for an advanced research ecosystem.

Among the key developments is the renovation of the veterinary laboratory at the Old Airport site. The upgrades will improve the lab’s infrastructure and capacity through full structural renovations, updated lab units, and the addition of a new veterinary autopsy facility.

New Agricultural Laboratory in Al Sheehaniya
Engineer Omar Abdulaziz Al Mahmoud, Project Engineer, noted that the agricultural research laboratory in Al Sheehaniya will cover 1,191 square meters and function as an integrated center for agricultural innovation.

The facility will feature specialized labs including areas for sample reception, preparation, spectroscopy, soil extraction, and physical and chemical analysis. Supporting amenities will include administrative offices, meeting rooms, and chemical and glassware storage areas.

Advanced Facilities at QSTP
According to Engineer Fahad Al Abdullah, also a Project Engineer, three designated units (104, 105, and 106) at Qatar Science and Technology Park will be converted into advanced research laboratories. These labs will incorporate the latest technology and meet Qatar Foundation’s strict quality and innovation standards.

The QSTP facilities will include a pesticide analysis lab, a biotechnology and plant pathology lab, and a lab for herbs and seeds, alongside auxiliary areas for storage, researcher workspaces, and meetings.

Sustainable Design with Qatari Identity
The Old Airport, Al Sheehaniya, and QSTP laboratories are all designed to reflect Qatar’s heritage while adhering to both local and international sustainability and quality standards.

The project incorporates sustainable practices such as energy and water conservation, fire safety systems, eco-friendly materials, and low-emission, non-toxic construction components. The design aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, reaffirming the country’s dedication to scientific advancement and sustainable development in the agricultural and livestock sectors.
