34th Doha International Book Fair Begins at DECC Under the Theme “From Engraving to Writing”
Doha International Book Fair 2025

The 34th edition of the Doha International Book Fair officially opened today, Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), under the theme “From Engraving to Writing.” The highly anticipated event will run until May 17, offering visitors a rich literary and cultural experience.

This year’s edition marks the largest in the fair’s history, with 522 publishing houses from 43 countries in attendance. Notably, Palestine is the guest of honor, with 11 Palestinian publishers participating for the first time, alongside the notable inclusion of Al Halbouni Street Libraries from Syria, which brings a collection of valuable books. Publishing houses from the United States and the United Kingdom are also making their debut appearance at the fair.

The exhibition features approximately 166,000 book titles and has drawn wide involvement from ministries, government and private institutions, and diplomatic missions accredited to the State of Qatar.

The Ministry of Culture’s pavilion is a central attraction, showcasing new publications, author works, and live on-site book printing via a modern digital press. It also serves as the venue for the announcement of the Doha International Book Fair Awards, which recognize excellence in publishing and authorship. Categories include:

  • Outstanding Publisher (Local & International)
  • Outstanding Publisher in Children’s Books (Local & International)
  • Creativity Award for Authors
  • Young Qatari Writer Award

The Ministry is also launching the first edition of the Literary Exchange Program, a new initiative aimed at enhancing global literary collaboration, rights exchange, and translation efforts.

Visitors can expect a vibrant lineup of cultural and artistic events, with renowned Arab intellectuals leading seminars, lectures, poetry evenings, theatrical performances, and workshops. Dedicated programs are also available for children and young adults, with a large area allocated to children’s book publishers and interactive activities, including storytelling, performances, and talent showcases.

The fair includes helpful visitor services such as a reading guide, “Ask Me” assistance stations, porter service, and free parking. The venue opens daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with Friday hours from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Established in 1972 under the auspices of the Qatari National Library, the Doha International Book Fair has grown into one of the largest and oldest literary events in the region. Since becoming an annual event in 2002, the fair has consistently attracted global publishing giants and achieved significant international recognition.

Continuing the tradition started in 2010, the fair selects one country each year as the guest of honor. Past guests have included the United States, Turkiye, Iran, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, France, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.

The 34th Doha International Book Fair is now open and welcoming book lovers, families, and culture enthusiasts from across Qatar and beyond.
